Not just flowers

The best way to choose your flowers,” says Chris Jones of Chris’ University Florist & Gifts in Winters, “is to choose your color theme first, then look for seasonal flowers that work with your colors. Then, consider how formal or informal you and your wedding are. For example, callas are a more formal flower than daisies.”
These days, tables and centerpieces are kept “a lot smaller and compact,” she says. “Think natural garden look: roses, hydrangea, grasses, berries.”
When it comes to bridesmaids, one trend that Jones is seeing is the use of decorative wire and other ornamentation. “The cutting-edge wedding sees body flowers—think floral arm candy wrapped on your arm, not carried; lots of carrying bouquets with stems showing; or adding glitz somewhere.” One particular trend is for bridesmaids to carry individualized bouquets that use one thematic element, such as a strand of crystals or integrated keepsakes.
Whatever trends may be waxing or waning, Jones says it’s still “all about the budget, region, color, season.”
