The little things that matter

iPod. A professional DJ keeps the music going and the momentum flowing at your reception. But if you’re on a tight budget, your iPod can be a great substitute. With a customized play list capability and the convenience of being able to plug into most audio equipment, your guests won’t miss a beat.

Customized dress tag. Your wedding dress becomes a family heirloom the moment you buy it. What better way to leave your mark on it than with a custom embroidered dress tag monogrammed with your name or initials, date and location? This new tradition is also great for something blue by having the embroidery done with blue thread. Prices ranges from $5-15 depending on what you want the tag to say. Keepsake cookbooks. Many family recipes get passed down to women as gifts when they get married. These cherished bits of family history should get more than just a slot in a recipe box. Websites like tastebook.com and thesecretingredients.com allow you to upload your recipes and photos to create truly unique keepsakes. $34.95-195.

Commissioner for the day. The ultimate personal and memorable touch a bride and groom can add to their day is to give a friend or family member the honor of performing their wedding. Yolo and Napa counties call this a wedding commissioner for the day. Napa County can email the to-be commissioner the application; once the application is approved the individual is sworn in. The cost is $100. Yolo County’s application is available at their office and costs $50. Unfortunately, Solano County does not offer the license, but when it is received in Napa or Yolo counties it is good for ceremonies anywhere in California. Napa County Clerk-Recorder, 900 Coombs, Room 116, Napa (707) 253-4246. Yolo County Clerk-Recorder, 625 Court St., Suite B-01, Woodland (530) 666-8130.
